Role Purpose
To provide technical Diamond Drilling specialist advice and support to Exploration operations. Provide guidance, instruction, and training to the national workforce to increase the overall drilling capability and capacity. The role will be focused on training and upskilling of PNG workforce, and increasing production rates.

Role Accountabilities

1. Technical support
• Proactively engage with the drilling crews to provide supervision to ensure drilling targets are achieved and optimised against budget.
• Management of the diamond drill fleet and all related machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose down hole problems and remedy issues that may arise.
• Ensure survey data is being recorded and reported correctly and in a timely manner.
• Complete all work that is required in the exploration environment to provide technical advice and support to the surface diamond drill teams to ensure diamond drill operation targets are achieved and optimised against budget.
• Ensure effective management of supplies and tooling.
• Control and communicate mining instructions to ensure compliance for Diamond Drilling Operations.
• Coordinate program for management of all Diamond Drilling services.
• Perform troubleshooting to identify and remedy issues that may arise.

2. Planning
• Support and assist the Exploration Management team to ensure the rectification of identified defect equipment to improve and optimise availability and reliability of Diamond Drilling targets.

3. Reliability and Condition Monitoring
• Work closely with the Surface Drilling Supervisor to assess performance and identify improvement projects to maximise results, reduce risk and implement cost management initiatives.

4. Improve capability of Diamond Drilling Team members and Surface Drillers’ capability in general.
• Establish a high-performance culture by motivating team members to achieve a high level of performance and by rewarding and recognising high performance.
• Ensure effective processes for communicating relevant information, including company, site, department, and team performance, to all team members are in place.
• Direct and train employees on the Set-up, operation, maintenance or repair of Diamond Drill fleet and all related Drilling equipment.
• Continuously mentor and coach operators on effective usage techniques on all related equipment and specialized tooling.
• Identify skills gaps and training requirements and assist in developing training packages as required to close the skills gap.
• Coordinate and assist with the delivery of training to employees including personnel of the Underground Mining Team’s customers.
• Actively review the work performance of operators and provide feedback to the mining supervisors including the talent and succession planning for designated key roles.

5. Safety
• Actively promotes a safe and healthy culture within the teams.
• Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety whilst setting clear expectations of relevant legal obligations, safe workplace practices and HSE operating practices to others, holding them accountable for their actions.
• Perform general housekeeping within and around responsible work area.

• Ensure diamond drilling operations are conducted by competent operators in a safe manner and in accordance with established procedures and legislation.

Qualifications (essential and desirable):
• Essential - Relevant qualification in Drilling Operations. Minimum Certificate III required.
• Desirable - Current Cert IV Training and Assessment
• Essential - Senior First Aid Certificate.
• Desirable – Workplace paramedic certification
• Essential - Internationally recognized or PNG National Driver’s License.
• Desirable – Certificate 3 or above in Front Line Management.
• Essential – Experience Operating Surface Drills to depths greater than 1500m

Required Knowledge and Experience (essential and desirable):
• Essential - 5+ years relevant work experience.
• Essential - Previous experience operating in developing countries in remote locations will be highly regarded.
• Essential - Knowledge of critical components of the Drills and their functions. Inclusive of Wedging, Cementing, and Down Hole Navigation drilling.
• Desirable - Experience working with Heli Portable drills, in very remote locations.
• Desirable - Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Essential - Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Essential - Excellent trouble shooting skills.
• Essential - Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
• Essential - Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
• Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training
