The organization

RESPECTfarms is a European early-stage startup in the cellular agriculture industry with headquarters in the Netherlands. Our vision is to sustainably transform our food system by integrating the best out of the conventional and the cellular agriculture industry. We, therefore, see ourselves as system integrator. Our goal is to be the first cellular agriculture farm worldwide. In the next 18 months, we will conduct feasibility studies to find out whether producing cultivated meat decentrally (on a farm) is possible.

The role

For the concept of decentralized production of cultivated meat at a farm, the context in which a bioreactor should operate differs from many of the current design and design approaches of existing technology. It’s not about factory scale and pharma; it is about farm scale and food production.

The key assignment is to deliver a functional design of a bioreactor, worked out in a brief, containing clear design criteria for the technical design of the farm bioreactor in the next phase. In this role, the researcher works in 3 phases:

Literature –based study of existing and developing technology.
Partner research of current stage of applied technology and identification of future partners.
Development of functional design of the farm bioreactor.

You will be shaping a big piece of the puzzle in a very ambitious project to deliver the most sustainable value chain for meat.

Responsibilities

Deliver full research & development report on the functional of the bioreactor for the cultivated meat farm.
Deliver monthly updates to the team on progress.
Engage with the internal and external subject matter experts
Obtain the necessary information and present it to team members throughout the process

Your profile

Previous experience in bioreactor design (several years)
Ability to demonstrate previous scientific literature research and reporting experience
Ability to work independently and interact proactively with colleagues, partners and subject matter experts
Ability to rethink the application of current technology. Create options and work with stakeholders to make decisions on current design criteria
Work with the digital prototyping team to help design and calculate the input and output of the bioreactor domain into the farmed meat value chain.
