This pivotal role will serve as the #2 to the Head of Legal. This position primarily focuses on product and commercial matters, while also encompassing some broader responsibilities such as compliance, privacy, and more.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Commercial Legal Support

Provide legal guidance on product development and commercialization.
Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams to offer counseling on products, features, and initiatives.
Understand strategic initiatives, product roadmaps, and release cycles for product features and functions.
Contribute to product release preparation by identifying and resolving issues related to marketing and advertising compliance, intellectual property, consumer protection, health regulatory compliance, privacy, data rights, data security, and other legal and regulatory issues while balancing business objectives.
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts and agreements.

Compliance & Privacy

Manage privacy-related legal matters, ensuring data protection and adherence to relevant privacy laws.
Collaborate with the Head of Security to ensure comprehensive compliance with security standards and protocols.

Cross-Functional Stakeholder Interaction

Regularly interact with and provide counsel to senior leadership.
Effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal executives and stakeholders, including Product, Engineering, Sales/CS, Marketing, Finance, and Business Development.

Generalist Legal Tasks

Address a broad range of legal issues as they arise.
Align with the Head of Legal & Ops on general risk mitigation strategies.
Support the legal needs of various departments within the organization.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) and member in good standing of a state bar.
4+ years of in-house experience advising product teams.
Commercial-minded with demonstrated experience in handling commercial legal issues.
Knowledge of compliance and privacy regulations and practices.
Prior experience in a startup/growth mode environment.
Healthcare industry experience + familiarity with regulations strongly preferred.
Experience with B2B and/or API’s is a plus.
Proven ability to work with senior leaders and advise non-legal executives.
Highly adaptable and creative problem-solver.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
