What You Will Do

As the Head of R&D reporting directly to the CEO, you are a strong leader with exceptional team-building skills, dedicated to fostering an innovative and collaborative environment. You possess extensive knowledge of cosmetic regulations, including FDA and EU standards, ensuring that product claims are substantiated and compliant. With excellent project management, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, you drive efficient development processes while maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance, SOP development, and product testing. You have a knack for communicating complex scientific information to non-technical stakeholders, facilitating alignment and informed decision-making across departments. Your experience in developing skincare products, particularly those involving textile fabrics and wipes, alongside your understanding of microencapsulation technology, positions you to enhance our product offerings. Having worked with both prestige and mass skincare brands, you navigate diverse market dynamics effectively, leading R&D efforts to innovate responsibly while leveraging a strong network within the skincare industry.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Lead and define the strategic direction of the R&D department, ensuring alignment with the company’s goals and vision in the skincare industry.
Product Development with Microencapsulation Focus: Lead the development of innovative products from concept to commercialization, employing microencapsulation techniques to deliver active ingredients more effectively. Oversee all stages of product development, ensuring products meet high-performance standards and consumer needs.
Innovation & Research: Drive innovation by researching emerging trends, new technologies, and scientific advancements in skincare. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explore novel ingredients and cutting-edge techniques.
Team Leadership & Management: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing R&D team, fostering a collaborative culture that encourages creativity and scientific excellence.
Clinical Testing & Efficacy: Collaborate with clinical research teams to design and implement clinical trials and studies to support claims of product efficacy and safety.
Quality Assurance & SOP Development: Implement and oversee quality assurance processes throughout product development, ensuring all products adhere to internal and external quality standards. Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for formulation, testing, safety, and compliance processes. Ensure the entire team understands and follows SOPs, enabling consistent and repeatable product outcomes.
SOP Implementation: Continuously review and improve existing SOPs to maintain best practices in product development, quality control, and regulatory compliance. Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure SOPs are effectively implemented and adhered to across the R&D department.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, regulatory, supply chain, and other departments to ensure seamless product development and launches.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with global skincare regulations, ensuring all formulations and products meet regulatory requirements across different markets.
Vendor & Partner Relationships: Build and manage relationships with raw material suppliers, research institutions, and third-party laboratories to support product development.

Who You Are

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of Research & Development (R&D) to lead our skincare innovation efforts. This role is critical to driving product development, research, innovation, quality assurance, and operational excellence for our skincare brand. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of skincare formulations & micro-encapsulation chemistry, active ingredients, regulatory standards, and quality control processes, as well as experience in creating and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Strong leadership capabilities to guide a team of scientists, formulators, and product developers are essential.

Qualifications:

PhD or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years in skincare R&D with a proven track record of successful product launches.
Leadership or management experience within an R&D department.
Deep understanding of skincare ingredients, formulation processes, product safety standards, quality assurance, and SOP development.
Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
In-depth knowledge of cosmetic regulations (FDA, EU, etc.) and claims substantiation.
Excellent project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Background in quality assurance, SOP development, and product testing methodologies.
Ability to communicate complex scientific information to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience with textile fabrics and wipes in skincare-related product development preferred.
Understanding of microencapsulation technology in skincare formulations preferred.
Experience with both prestige and mass skincare brands preferred.
Knowledge of clean beauty standards and natural formulation practices.
Strong network within the skincare industry.
