Marie Curie – Head of Philanthropy

Location: UK wide, 1-2 days a week in London head office.

Salary: £60k - £70k per annum.

Contract: Permanent, full-time hours.

Marie Curie, the UK’s leading end-of-life charity, is seeking an experienced, dynamic Head of Philanthropy to lead the team to support their ambitious long-term growth plans.

Marie Curie is there to support everyone in the UK through all aspects of dying, death and bereavement – and to fight for a society where everyone gets to have the best experience possible at the end of their lives. Marie Curie Nurses, Hospices and Support Line provide frontline care and support.

After seeing significant growth in recent years, the charity aims to substantially grow Philanthropy income, from under £1milion to significantly over £3 million over the next five years with this position playing a key role, driving the number and size of gifts and securing and developing bespoke relationships with high-net-worth individuals to raise income, influence, and awareness.

The Head of Philanthropy will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Philanthropy strategy, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Philanthropy team which manages a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and Senior Volunteers. You will work closely with senior leadership and Trustees to maximise sustainable income from this source.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of having asked for, negotiated and secured 6-7 figure gifts for major donors and grant-making bodies. You will have expenditure of major donor fundraising and of large capital or revenue fundraising appeals, as well as in leading and managing teams to achieve outstanding results. You will be a strategic thinker with exceptional relationship-building and networking skills and, finally, have the ability to understand the needs and interests of major gift donors in order to develop and strengthen relationships between them and Marie Curie.
