What You Will Do

Miss Jones Baking Co. is seeking a Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance to lead and scale enterprise-wide quality programs, with a primary focus on their in-house manufacturing facility in Northern Ohio. You’ll own all quality and food safety programs across internal operations, external co-manufacturing partners, and global ingredient suppliers.

Your mission: build on a strong foundation to create a best-in-class food safety system, drive a data-first culture of continuous improvement, and deliver exceptional product safety, quality, and value to customers.

Responsibilities:

Lead and develop an experienced team of Managers, Supervisors and QFS technicians.
Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA FSIS, FSMA, SQF, GFSI, and other relevant food safety standards and certifications.
Lead incident management, recall readiness, and regulatory responses.
Develop and maintain scorecards to measure and report performance across internal sites and supplier/co-man partners.
Ensure facility compliance with HACCP, Preventive Controls, GMPs, allergen management, sanitation, and traceability requirements.
Partner with Production, Engineering, and Maintenance to embed food safety into every process.
Translate consumer and customer feedback into actionable insights and improvements.
Champion a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across all teams and functions.
Lead root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, and trend-based improvements.
Implement best-in-class practices for verification, validation, and process control.
Develop and deliver training programs for frontline and leadership teams to reinforce quality and food safety fundamentals, and promote ownership.
Act as the voice of quality in cross-functional initiatives involving Operations, R&D, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams.
Represent the company during regulatory inspections, third-party audits, and customer quality reviews.
Communicate key metrics, risks, and opportunities to the executive team with clarity and urgency.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate has implemented and scaled food safety and quality programs in the CPG industry with a start-up, emerging brand, or small company experiencing rapid growth.

Qualifications:

10+ years in food safety and quality leadership, including 5+ years in senior or enterprise-level roles.
Experience overseeing both in-plant QA and supplier/co-man food safety programs.
Proven expertise in FDA and USDA FSIS regulations, HACCP, FSMA, and third-party certification schemes (SQF, BRC, GFSI).
Demonstrated success in building scalable food safety systems and implementing enterprise scorecards.
Skilled in analyzing customer feedback and linking insights to process and product improvements.
Highly analytical, data-driven, and KPI-focused.
Experienced in mentoring, managing, and developing high-performing teams.
Cross-functional leadership with strong communication and influence skills.
Practical, hands-on mindset with strategic perspective.
