Quality Control Engineer

Summary
The Quality Control Engineer is responsible for maintaining defined product quality standards through receiving,
first piece, in—process, and final tests and inspections, performing related quality assurance tasks.
Reports to: Quality Control Manager. Salaried, exempt position.

Essential Duties
1. Checks P.O.P.S., inspection standards, and blueprint.
　Performs receiving, set-up, trial, first piece, in—process and final inspections.
　Performs sampling, lot, or 100% inspection. Obtains proper inspection tools.
　Visually checks product for damage or flaws. Checks dimensions using micrometer, caliper, and fixed
　or adjustable gauges. Authorizes start—up of each production run following set-up inspection.
　Exercises discretion to reject nonconforming parts or material.
　Confers with Engineer, Die Setter, Production Manager, and operators as needed to identify quality problem
　and recommend solution.
2. Sets up, adjusts, and uses a variety of inspection and testing equipment such as micrometer, calipers, gauges,
　profile projector, hardness tester, tensile tester, torque tester, video measuring system, spring tester,
　and related equipment. Cleans and maintains inspection tools. Performs routine calibration checks.
　May request Tool Room personnel & vendors to make fixed gauges.
　May recommend purchase of new inspection tools and equipment.
3. Develops and recommends inspection standards and inspection procedures, PQCT and FMEA.
　Identifies quality standard and prepares quality specification sheet listing quality standard,
　inspection procedures, and inspection tools.
　Organizes quality file with standards, specification sheet, sample piece, gauges and related items.
　Trains and instructs Machine Operators and sorters on inspection techniques and quality issues for each production job.
　Develops and writes work instructions with sketches and step by step instructions on efficient ways to perform job tasks.
4. Records and charts inspection results according to statistical process control (SPC) guidelines.
　Monitors In-Process check sheet. Recommends corrective actions to Machine Operator or Die Setter.
　Notifies manager, group leader or engineers of significant problems.
5. Packs and sends product samples to customer for approval. Coordinates quality certifications and other required
　first piece data when required by customer. Checks returned goods and evaluates products.
6. Prepare customer claim reports identifying problem and recommending solution.
　Responds to customers’ claims by calling or writing to the customer’s Quality Control department.
　Maintains customer claims reports.
7. Observes safety standards, follows safety rules, wears specified personal protective equipment.
　Maintains neat work area. Participates in safety activities.
8. Maintains records related to claims, inspection, In-Process check, customer evaluation, calibration, etc.
　Reviews records submitted by associates and takes corrective action to maintain quality and production standards.
9. Responds to customers’ claims by recording, investigating and responding to claims.
　May confer with Quality Control department, Production, Engineer, Sales and others.
10. Recommends improvements. Participates in training. Performs other tasks as requested.

Qualifications
* High school education, preferably supplemented by advanced training in quality control,
　mechanical inspection, metal working, machining, or related fields.
* 2 - 4 years experience in quality control, with knowledge of mechanical inspection, inspection tools,
　and quality control techniques. Possess superior math skills and familiarity with blueprints.
* Any other equivalent combination of training and experience.
