Staff Backend Engineer

They are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer based in Brazil to lead the design and development of large-scale backend systems powering their AI-driven platform. Challenges you would face

Lead architecture decisions and establish backend engineering best practices
Design and implement scalable backend systems, APIs, and microservices capable of handling millions of requests
Mentor senior engineers and promote technical excellence across teams
Collaborate with AI, frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver integrated solutions
Ensure security, scalability, and performance across all backend systems
Develop and maintain technical documentation and promote knowledge sharing initiatives

The ideal candidate

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field
10+ years of experience as a backend developer with increasing levels of responsibility
3+ years in a senior or lead engineering role with mentorship experience
Proven experience designing and deploying distributed systems at scale
Expert proficiency in Python for web development and system programming
Advanced experience with Django, Django REST Framework, and FastAPI
Strong understanding of asynchronous programming in Python (asyncio, Celery, etc.)
Experience with message queues and event-driven architectures (SQS, SNS, RabbitMQ, Kafka)
Deep understanding of microservices, high-availability systems, and performance optimization
Advanced experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
Knowledge of observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack
Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills for complex distributed environments

Plus

Experience integrating AI or ML systems into backend architectures
Familiarity with video processing or streaming technologies
Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architectures
Understanding of data privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, or LGPD
