National Lead – Smart Building Consulting

About the Role

Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced leader to head its Smart Building Consulting practice. This individual will fill a critical vacancy following the departure of the previous department head and will be responsible for driving the growth and technical excellence of the national smart buildings portfolio. The role reports directly to the Secure Intelligent Solutions Practice Leader and will collaborate with a diverse team of ICT, cybersecurity, and operational technology professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the national technical and business leader for Smart Building Consulting, representing Michael Baker to clients, industry partners, and at conferences.
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of smart building and intelligent building consultants, currently including three to four professionals with relevant experience.
Oversee and deliver complex projects in federal, commercial, healthcare, data center, and industrial markets, with a strong focus on controls, operational technologies, and integrated systems.
Drive business development efforts: identify, pursue, and secure new clients and projects; leverage existing relationships and develop new ones.
Provide project management, technical direction, and quality assurance on smart building and ICS/OT consulting engagements.
Collaborate with other practice leaders in ICT, cybersecurity, and engineering to deliver integrated solutions.
Develop and implement best practices, standards, and innovative approaches for smart building systems and operational technologies.

Qualifications

Minimum 10–15 years of direct experience in smart building consulting, controls systems, operational technologies, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated expertise in smart building implementations, controls, and operational technologies.
Strong technical background; engineering degree preferred but not required. Must be able to understand and integrate mechanical, electrical, and architectural disciplines.
Proven track record of business development and client relationship management.
Experience leading teams and managing complex projects.
Ability to represent the practice at a national level and drive growth through thought leadership and industry engagement.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Flexible: remote, hybrid, or in-office arrangements available.
Preference for candidates able to access a Michael Baker office for collaboration, but not a strict requirement.
