We're a leading recruitment company in Sri Lanka looking for a Manufacturing & Automation Engineering Manager – Group for a leading Food Manufacturing company based in Colombo. This leadership role is responsible for driving process optimisation, standardisation, and the integration of advanced automation technologies to enhance efficiency, quality, compliance, and cost performance across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Optimisation & Standardisation

Lead continuous improvement initiatives across group manufacturing sites.
Develop, implement, and maintain standardised manufacturing and engineering processes.
Identify bottlenecks, waste, and inefficiencies, and implement sustainable solutions.

Automation & Technology Integration

Define and execute the group automation and digital manufacturing strategy.
Lead the selection, implementation, and optimisation of automation, control systems, and smart manufacturing technologies.
Collaborate with IT, operations, and external partners to ensure seamless system integration.

Efficiency & Cost Management

Drive productivity improvements and operational cost reductions without compromising quality or safety.
Develop and monitor KPIs related to equipment performance, energy usage, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Support capital investment planning and deliver strong ROI on engineering projects.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

Ensure all engineering and manufacturing processes comply with food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality systems.
Support audits and ensure engineering standards align with industry best practices (e.g. HACCP, GMP, ISO).
Embed quality-by-design principles into equipment and process design.

Project Management

Lead and govern capital and strategic engineering projects from concept to commissioning.
Manage budgets, timelines, risks, and resources across multiple concurrent projects.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Innovation & Industry Trends

Stay abreast of emerging technologies, automation trends, and best practices in food manufacturing.
Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the engineering function.
Identify and pilot new technologies that enhance competitiveness and operational resilience.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing group engineering and automation team.
Partner closely with operations, quality, supply chain, and senior leadership.
Act as a technical authority and trusted advisor at group level.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (Master’s degree advantageous).
Significant senior-level experience in manufacturing engineering and automation, preferably within the food or FMCG manufacturing sector.
Proven track record in process optimisation, automation implementation, and capital project delivery.
Strong knowledge of food manufacturing standards, quality systems, and regulatory compliance.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing multi-site or group-level engineering teams.
