Role Overview

An established, employee-owned AEC consulting engineering firm is seeking an Electrical Engineering Department Manager to lead and grow its electrical practice in Atlanta. This is a senior leadership role for an electrical engineer who has previously held a department or team management position and is comfortable balancing technical leadership, people management, and business development.

This is not a first-time manager role. Candidates must have prior experience leading an electrical engineering team within an AEC / consulting environment.

The firm is financially secure, supported by a strong backlog of repeat clients, and operates with a high degree of autonomy at the office level.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage an electrical engineering team within an AEC consulting environment
Provide mentorship, performance management, and professional development for staff
Maintain responsibility for technical quality, delivery, and standards across projects
Play an active role in business development, client relationships, and proposal efforts
Collaborate with office and regional leadership on growth strategy and staffing plans
Support recruiting and hiring as the department grows
Oversee project planning, staffing, schedules, and financial performance
Serve as a senior technical resource across complex projects

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
AEC / consulting engineering experience is required
Prior experience as a Department Manager, Group Lead, or similar leadership role
Demonstrated experience managing and developing engineering teams
Proficiency with Revit (required) and AutoCAD
Strong understanding of electrical systems design for complex facilities
Experience working directly with clients and supporting business development
Ability to balance leadership, technical, and commercial responsibilities
