Senior Private Cloud Engineer

Location: Hybrid, Netherlands (approx. 2 days on-site per week) – Multiple locations across the Netherlands.
Salary: Up to €100,000 Gross annual salary (including benefits) - A gross monthly salary between €5,400 and €6,500, with the possibility to exceed this range depending on your skills and experience.

The Role

What will you do?
As a Private Cloud Engineer, you are responsible for executing project activities for our client, as well as managing and further developing the environment. You work daily on complex architecture and security challenges. You translate the chosen strategy—based on the latest developments in your field—into concrete solution building blocks and contribute to both configuration and implementation.
You have an outside-in perspective, meaning you can easily find your way within the organization, consult references, and apply best practices. As a Private Cloud Engineer, you proactively shape your role based on your expertise and professional attitude. Your work ranges from translating designs into realizations to setting up the corresponding deployment instructions.
In addition, you act as a third-line escalation point: when it comes to expertise, you are the go-to person. You design and deliver tactical solutions for the client, fully thought through. This includes challenges related to integrations, migrations, security, and performance requirements. In short, a varied role with a high degree of independence.
Additional Responsibilities

Supporting other teams with automation; strong skills in knowledge transfer and training are essential
Creating and maintaining clear documentation and effectively explaining technical concepts

Your responsibilities also include:

Automating manual processes
Managing, scaling, and further developing VMware-based cloud environments, including automated engineering workflows and VM deployments
Developing, testing, and implementing automation using CI/CD tooling and best practices
Performing upgrades (new component versions) and updates (patching)
Logging, monitoring, and optimizing environments
Release management
Capacity management
Setting up and improving operational management processes

Where Will You Work?
In this role, you can work from home three days per week. One day per week you are expected to work from our location in Maasland, and one day in Utrecht - or two days per week in Utrecht.
Important: Due to the nature of working for a government client, you must hold Dutch nationality, possess a valid Dutch passport, and be able to speak and write Dutch fluently.
Our head office in the Netherlands is located in the sustainable Pharos building in Hoofddorp. An active social community regularly organizes informal and inspiring activities. Hybrid working is fully supported.
Who You Are
General Experience
You are familiar with several of the products, technologies, and knowledge areas listed below and apply them regularly in your work. Certifications are a plus where indicated:

Automation using Red Hat Ansible (CKA certification required)
Automated provisioning of IaaS and PaaS services
Knowledge and experience with Terraform and Argo CD
Secure-by-design principles
Minimum Red Hat Linux RHCSA and RHCE certification

In addition, you bring:

5–8 years of experience managing private cloud environments
Experience with hosting (IaaS and PaaS), high availability, high performance, scalability, and security best practices
Knowledge of IT service management processes
Strong scripting skills, especially Ansible, PowerShell, Python, YAML, and JavaScript
Security techniques and encryption
Zoning and segmentation concepts for applications and data
Version control for source code and configuration files (GitLab and Git)
Dashboarding and virtualization
Monitoring, logging, antivirus, and related tooling
Compute, network, and storage design concepts
Container technologies (Kubernetes)
Experience with CI/CD tools
Experience with Nutanix is a plus
