Purpose of the Role

To act as the main project reference for mechanical commissioning, as the focal point within the Commissioning group for all activities related to mechanical systems and equipment.

Specific Responsibilities

Verify that mechanical supplies such as pumps, fans, internal combustion engines, turbines, vessels, compressors, filters, membranes, fire-fighting devices, etc., as engineered and manufactured, are capable of meeting contractual performance requirements during operation.
Be responsible for commissioning of mechanical equipment and for managing vendors and personnel involved in this phase of the project.

General Responsibilities

Participate in the engineering phase, interfacing with the Project Engineering Manager and/or Mechanical PSL, as well as directly with Vendors, for the definition and optimization of mechanical packages.
Identify, together with the Project Engineering Manager and/or Mechanical PSL, the requirements for FAT and SAT procedures for mechanical supplies.
Identify any IAT (Integrated Acceptance Tests), i.e., tests integrated with other packages prior to installation, in order to minimize the time required for overall plant commissioning.
Analyze mechanical supplies and verify proper interfacing with other packages.
Support the Commissioning Manager in defining the commissioning plan and activity sequences, identifying internal/external resources (contractor personnel, vendor personnel) and assets required to perform the activities in accordance with contract requirements and project schedule, and in compliance with QHSE and discipline technical methodologies.
Participate in FAT activities for mechanical supplies.
Act as Client focal point for all mechanical commissioning activities, including SAT procedures and commissioning procedures for packages requiring them.
Personally participate in, or delegate, walk-downs with Construction for takeover of systems that have reached Mechanical Completion (MC) and verify MC dossiers.
Assist QC Inspectors in Mechanical Completion activities when required.
Coordinate completion of pre-commissioning and commissioning forms and verify that documentation is delivered to the CMS (Completion Management System) administrator.
Identify the list of materials required to perform commissioning activities and prepare related procurement requests in line with the commissioning schedule, for mechanical supply and commissioning.
Plan maintenance and set-up of test equipment required for mechanical testing.
Support the commissioning team in preparation of commissioning documentation such as system/sub-system lists, colored P&IDs, and all documents identified in the commissioning document list, in accordance with the Commissioning Manager’s instructions.
Prepare check sheets, commissioning procedures, and all documentation related to the mechanical discipline, including spare parts lists.
Perform risk assessment related to commissioning of rotating machinery and/or pressurized circuits and/or use of hazardous substances (flammable, corrosive, toxic).
Manage requests and control of permits to work for equipment energization, pressurization of circuits, and Livening-Up Notifications (LUN).
Manage and coordinate the work group assigned to mechanical commissioning activities, including Vendors, mechanics, and other technicians.
Manage the mechanical isolation and blind flange register.
Cooperate with other Commissioning Engineers to achieve assigned objectives, providing mechanical discipline support when required.
Coordinate troubleshooting and technical support for site needs.
Manage close-out of mechanical discipline Punch List items.
Report to the Commissioning Manager on progress of assigned activities and promptly highlight any technical or organizational issues related to the mechanical scope.
Manage finalization of mechanical engineering and vendor documentation, including red mark-ups and issuance of as-built revisions.
