Background
The Global Methane Hub (GMH) is the first coordinated philanthropic approach to funding methane mitigation. The Hub focuses on the energy, agricultural, and waste sectors, which account for 96% of human-caused methane emissions. We support ambitious catalytic investments, lay the groundwork for long-term transformation, and deliver quick wins ripe for action on the ground.

GMH advances its mission through three main functions:

Regranting: Providing financial support to public-benefit organisations working directly to mitigate methane.

Convening: Bringing together governments, civil society, researchers, and funders to align strategies and accelerate coordinated action in the interest of the public benefit.

Advising: Serving as a knowledge hub and trusted partner, providing guidance on methane mitigation strategies, data sharing, and field-building.

Our actions are global in nature, and we also believe quick wins will only be had if we engage sub-nationals and local communities. Our activities focus on the highest-emitting sectors and regions, with a team spread across six continents, and is headquartered in Santiago, Chile.

Purpose of role
The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Lead at the Global Methane Hub oversees the full MEL ecosystem and serves as the strategic anchor for evidence-based decision-making across the organisation. This role provides the vision, alignment, and coordination that ensure both quantitative and qualitative evidence meaningfully influence strategy, decision-making, and communications in partnership with the Leadership Team.

Reporting to the Director of Development and Impact, the MEL Lead will manage the MEL team, establish an integrated MEL infrastructure, and guide GMH's learning agenda to support the organisation's expanding portfolio, partnerships, and strategic ambitions. This position will create a balanced MEL system in which monitoring, evaluation, and learning each receive dedicated leadership and focused capacity.

Primary responsibilities

MEL Strategy, Systems & Frameworks

Lead the development and evolution of GMH’s MEL strategy and integrated MEL infrastructure.
Maintain organisation-wide MEL frameworks, indicators, and measurement approaches.
Build annual MEL plans, reporting calendars, and strategic decision points.
Advise the Leadership Team on the theory of change and GMH decision-making frameworks.
Develop an organisation-wide system for tracking co-funding and aligned investments.
Scope and execute activities that use AI, automation, and modelling tools to enhance monitoring, identify patterns, and generate predictive insights that support GMH’s strategy and decision-making.
Provide strategic direction for the development of an externally facing grant database, ensuring alignment with MEL frameworks, transparency goals, and impact narrative in partnership with Grants Management, Development, and Communications teams.
Ensure MEL practices reflect equity, context sensitivity, systems thinking, and Global South priorities.

Leadership of Monitoring & Evaluation

Ensure strong data governance, quality, and consistency across teams, including KPIs.
Over time, establish a co-benefit modelling framework that enables GMH to estimate and validate its contribution to outcomes like public health gains, economic benefits, food security, and conservation.
Oversee monitoring systems of KPIs and other relevant outcome metrics.
Champion the responsible integration of emerging technologies, including AI, into GMH’s insights, analytics, and measurement systems, expanding our capacity to anticipate change, understand the directionality of our work, and continuously improve impact.
Commission and oversee third-party evaluations at the initiative, portfolio, and organisational levels.
Translate evaluation findings into clear, actionable recommendations that inform strategy and choices.

Knowledge Management System

Design and maintain the knowledge management environment supporting monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
Integrate insights from data, evaluations, learning sessions, and grantee feedback into a unified system.
Oversee internal annual learning reports and a year-in-review process.

Organisational Learning & Culture

Guide GMH’s learning agenda.
Ensure learning meetings and structured reflections are aligned with strategic questions and decision timelines.
Foster a culture of inquiry, curiosity, and constructive challenge.
Support adaptation and innovation across programmes.

Impact Narrative & Communication

Build and steward GMH’s impact narrative, combining quantitative and qualitative evidence.
Partner with Development, Communications, and Leadership teams to turn MEL insights into compelling storytelling.
Help present impact to donors, funders, and external partners as needed.

Grantee Perception and Feedback Systems

Launch and oversee periodic grantee perception surveys, ensuring feedback informs strategy, operations, and partnership practices in partnership with the Grants Lead.
Co-create feedback mechanisms with programmes and grantees for ongoing listening and shared reflection in partnership with the Grants Lead.

Team Management & Leadership

Manage the MEL team.
Set priorities, provide coaching, and ensure alignment with organisational goals.
Represent MEL in leadership meetings, strategic discussions, and key decision points.
Foster a collaborative, results-driven environment that promotes professional growth and cross-functional partnership.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience

Bachelor's degree required; relevant advanced degree in monitoring and evaluation, international development, social science, statistics, or related fields preferred.
Minimum of 8+ years of progressive MEL experience required, with at least 5 years in senior MEL leadership roles.
Proven track record designing and implementing comprehensive MEL systems for complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
Background in the climate, environmental, philanthropic, or international development sector strongly preferred.
Deep expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methods, including theory of change development, impact evaluation, and participatory approaches.
Experience with emerging technologies in MEL, including AI, automation, and predictive analytics.
Previous people management experience required, with demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire MEL teams.
Strong knowledge management and systems thinking capabilities.
Experience with grantee-facing MEL practices and co-creating feedback mechanisms with partners.
Experience using data visualisation tools such as Tableau (or similar platforms) to translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for internal decision-making and external reporting.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, track, and deliver complex MEL initiatives across multiple workstreams, timelines, and stakeholders.
Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including data cleaning, analysis, visualisation, and dashboard development for decision-making and reporting.
Demonstrated experience developing clear, compelling presentations in PowerPoint or Google Slides to communicate insights, findings, and recommendations to senior leaders, funders, and partners.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to translate complex data and evaluation findings into clear insights for diverse audiences.
Experience working with diverse, globally distributed teams across multiple time zones.

Excellent and/or native English required, additional languages highly valued.
Proven ability to think strategically while managing operational details effectively.

Additional Information

This will be a full-time (40 hours/week) remote role and will require considerable time flexibility to support and collaborate with staff and stakeholders across multiple time zones. The position supervisor is in the GMT-3/-4 time zone.
Ability and willingness to travel internationally (~10%).
