Estimator – Structural Steel (Joist & Metal Deck)

The Opportunity
Our client is a leading national supplier of joists and metal deck packages, operating across all 50 states. They specialize in providing full-scope material packages, primarily working from structural drawings provided by fabricators.

As they scale their estimating department, they are looking for a highly skilled Structural Steel Estimator to join the team. This role is a critical link between engineering and sales, ensuring that material takeoffs for open-web steel bar joists and corrugated metal decking are precise, competitive, and technically sound.

The Role
This is a high-level technical role that requires more than just counting beams. You will be responsible for a deep-dive analysis of structural drawings to determine exact material requirements. You will work closely with the Head of Estimating to transition takeoff operations to a real-time, collaborative timezone.

Location: Remote (Offshore)
Priority: LATAM or South Africa
Hours: Full-time, aligned with US business hours (EST/CST)

Key Responsibilities

Analyze structural drawings and contract documents to determine precise material requirements
Conduct takeoffs using Bluebeam for:
- Corrugated metal decking (measured in square feet), including accessories
- Steel joists and trusses (measured by piece count)
Prepare detailed Scope of Work documents, including exclusions, clarifications, and conditions
Collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies or technical questions
Input takeoffs into design and pricing software and maintain accurate records of bid documents and revisions
Ensure all estimates are itemized, accurate, and verified before submission

Who You Are

Expert in reading structural blueprints, especially open-web steel bar joist systems
Advanced user of Bluebeam for takeoffs and markups
Strong English communication skills for technical discussions with a US-based team
Highly organized with strong attention to detail in documentation and record-keeping

Qualifications

Proven experience as a Construction Estimator within Structural Steel (Joist & Metal Deck)
Mastery of Bluebeam Revu required
Experience with design and pricing software is a plus
Background in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred
Ability to work consistent US hours (EST/CST)
