Brief Job Description: Performs a full range of activities related to maintenance, diagnostics, repair, calibration, and adjustment of complex and highly complex instrumentation, automation, control, protection, fire and gas detection systems used to ensure the safe, reliable, and uninterrupted operation of production processes at oil and gas facilities. Carries out maintenance of unique measurement and control systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLC and SCADA systems, and participates in troubleshooting and elimination of failures at the control and automation system level.
Job Specification and requirements:
Education:
Higher or secondary specialized technical education relevant to Instrumentation and Control (I&C), Automation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Instrument Engineering, or related fields.
It is preferred that candidates hold the following certifications: Electrical Safety Group not lower than Grade III (up to 1,000 V); authorization to perform work on explosion‑protected (Ex) equipment.
The candidate must have knowledge in the following fields:
Instrumentation & Control (I&C) and Automation

Strong knowledge in the field of I&C, understanding of the principles for measurement and control of process parameters.
Knowledge of the design, purpose, and operating principles of instruments used to measure and control pressure, temperature, flow, level, etc., as well as main elements of automation systems.
Knowledge and understanding of the purpose, design, and operating principles of control valves and actuators, including regulating and shut‑off valves; actuators; regulators; sensors and positioners (including DVC); signal converters (I/P converters).
Basic understanding of automatic control and regulation principles (at the level of understanding how regulators operate and their role in the process).
Instrument calibration and verification methods; fundamentals of metrology.

Electrical Engineering and Electronics

Fundamentals of electrical engineering and electronics (including digital electronics).
Electronic measuring instruments and electronic control systems.
Reading and analysis of electrical schematic diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), installation, functional, and loop diagrams.
Skills in working with technical documentation: equipment manuals and data sheets. Troubleshooting and fault‑finding in electrical circuits up to 1,000 V.

Production Processes and Safety

Basic oil and gas processing processes.
Process systems and equipment used at the Tengiz oil and gas processing complex.
Fire and gas detection, protection, and emergency alarm systems.
Causes of failures in I&C equipment and automation systems; methods for defects prevention and elimination.
Procedures for performing work on operating equipment, including bypasses and forcing.

The candidate must be able to:

Independently plan, organize, and perform maintenance, diagnostic, and repair activities for I&C (Instrumentation and Control) equipment.
Independently perform the following activities:
- installation and commissioning of I&C equipment and measuring instruments;
- routing, termination, and connection of I&C cables (up to 1,000 V) in accordance with design and regulatory documentation;
- installation of impulse lines (Swagelok and equivalent systems), including verification of correct connections and leak tightness.
Analyze equipment and automation system malfunctions and identify root causes of failures.
Make sound technical decisions taking into account operational risks, potential consequences, and safety requirements.
Plan and coordinate the execution of complex repair and diagnostic activities.
Perform expert analysis of failures related to instruments and automation systems.
Organize work activities, develop and train less experienced personnel, and carry out mentoring functions.
Prepare accurate, well‑structured technical reports, conclusions, and recommendations based on completed work.
Clearly and logically communicate information both verbally and in writing when interacting with colleagues and management.

Work Experience:

At least 5 years of practical experience as an Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Fitter at oil and gas facilities, with proven experience of independent maintenance and repair of complex instruments and automation systems, failure diagnostics, participation in preventive maintenance (PM), and work on live equipment.
