Senior Backend Engineer – Payments Infrastructure

A well-funded, globally recognised Web3 infrastructure company is scaling its payments platform at speed. The team powers a network used by tens of thousands of applications and hundreds of millions of transactions, and has recently launched a stablecoin and crypto payments product now embedded with major global payment providers and merchants. Engineering here means real ownership - no dedicated infra team, no hand-holding, just senior engineers building and operating what they ship.

🟢 About the role

You'll join the payments engineering team and take ownership of backend systems across the stack - payment orchestration, merchant and partner APIs, settlement flows, and internal business services. Where you focus will depend on your background and where the team needs depth. The common thread: you'll design systems, ship production code, own your deployments, and operate with the accountability of a senior engineer in a fast-moving fintech environment. The primary stack is Rust and TypeScript on AWS infrastructure managed with Terraform.

🟢 Main Responsibilities

Design and build backend services across payment flows, APIs, and internal tooling
Write technical design documents and participate in architecture decisions
Own systems end-to-end: from development and testing through deployment and incident response
Build and manage infrastructure via Terraform alongside your engineering work
Instrument everything you ship: logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting
Translate requirements from product, finance, ops, and compliance into clean implementations
Contribute to code review culture and engineering documentation

🟢 Key Requirements

Senior backend engineering experience - you've designed, built, and operated production services with real consequences
Hands-on Rust experience, or strong production background in TypeScript, Go, Java, or Kotlin with clear willingness to move into Rust quickly
Strong system and API design skills - you reason well about trade-offs in distributed, high-throughput environments
Experience with payment systems, fintech infrastructure, or real-time transaction and ledger-style data
Comfortable owning infrastructure directly - deploying and managing what you build via AWS and Terraform
High-ownership mentality - you've worked autonomously without heavy process or structural support
Clear written communication; you can produce technical documents and work effectively across a remote, async team

🟢 Bonus Points

Background in settlement, reconciliation, FX, or multi-party payment flows
Experience building merchant-facing or developer-facing APIs and SDKs
Exposure to data pipelines or internal reporting and compliance systems
Familiarity with blockchain ecosystems, stablecoins, or on-chain settlement patterns
