As a Senior QA Engineer, you’ll be the quality lead embedded in a cross-functional squad, designing automation strategies that keep pace with event-driven microservices, APIs, and front-end experiences.

You will be embedded alongside developers and the product owner, working across the full delivery cycle - from making sure requirements are testable before a line of code is written, through to proving the system produces correct results at scale.
Quality ownership starts well before test execution. You will challenge acceptance criteria, surface missing scenarios during refinement, and ensure the team has a shared understanding of what "done" looks like - including the edge cases. When requirements are clear and testable, bugs are prevented rather than found.
You will also design and implement the test scenarios that need domain expertise - the business-critical paths, the parity comparisons against the legacy system, and the failure modes that developers would not think to cover. You write the test code yourself. The thinking and the implementation are done by the same person.

What You Will Do

Challenge and refine acceptance criteria before development starts - ensure they are specific, testable, and cover business exception cases, not just the happy path
Surface missing scenarios during refinement
Work with the product owner to understand the domain deeply enough to anticipate where things will go wrong
Identify the business scenarios that matter most - edge cases, boundary conditions, and data combinations that unit tests cannot cover
Write test automation code yourself - integrated into the team's CI pipeline
Design and run parity comparisons between the legacy platform and the new system, selecting representative transaction samples that cover the actual business boundaries
Keep the test suite lean and fast - remove duplicate, brittle, or low-value tests
Help developers write better tests by reviewing coverage and suggesting gaps
Own quality metrics and visibility for your team so risks are surfaced early

What We Are Looking For
Required

Experience as a test engineer, QA engineer, or SDET - you have designed test strategies and written test code, not just executed test plans
Ability to write test automation code - this is a hands-on coding role
Strong analytical skills - you can read a specification, a data model, or an event schema and identify the cases that will cause problems
Experience working within agile delivery teams - particularly contributing to refinement, challenging requirements, and shaping what gets built
Pragmatic approach to quality - you optimise for confidence, not coverage numbers
Experience with CI/CD integration - your tests run in the pipeline, not as a separate activity
Familiarity with event-driven architectures and the testing challenges they introduce - ordering, idempotency, eventual consistency
Comfortable working with Kafka - publishing test events, consuming and asserting on outputs, debugging message flows
Strong SQL skills - you will write comparison queries across systems, verify financial calculations, and spot data discrepancies
Comfortable with Docker and containerised test environments
Experience with modern test tooling such as Testcontainers, JUnit, REST Assured, or equivalent

Desirable

Experience in financial services, payments, or acquiring
Experience with migration or platform replacement validation - comparing outputs between legacy and new systems
Experience with performance or load testing

What We Offer

The opportunity to shape quality practices for a major platform modernisation from the ground up
A modern technology environment - event-driven microservices, Kafka, AWS, Quarkus, Testcontainers
A quality model that values thinking over volume - we measure confidence, not test count
A collaborative team of experienced engineers and architects
