A bit about us 🏡

Athyna is a platform that helps companies hire exceptional talent from around the world with AI precision and a human-first approach. We’re not a recruitment agency. We manage the entire hiring journey, from sourcing and vetting to matching, onboarding, and global compliance, making it easy for companies to build high-performing remote teams without the usual hiring headaches.

We're also a fully remote, globally distributed team ourselves. We believe great work isn't limited by geography, and neither are great careers. Our culture is built around trust, ownership, curiosity, and kindness, creating an environment where talented people can do their best work together.

And it's working. With an engagement score of 91.5% (yes, seriously), we don’t just talk culture, we live it.

Job description 📜

As a Sr Product Engineer, you'll work within Athyna's Product & Engineering team, reporting to our Product & Engineering Lead. You'll set the technical direction for our job board and talent experience, and take ownership of the team's hardest engineering problems. You'll also partner closely with product and design leads to shape the roadmap, bringing your perspective on user needs and behavior to decisions that go beyond pure technical solutions.

Key responsibilities 🎯

Lead the technical design and architecture of our job board and internal platform, making decisions that scale beyond the immediate ticket.
Own the full stack end to end: you're as comfortable designing a PostgreSQL schema as you are optimizing a React render or debugging a Railway deployment.
Set and maintain engineering standards, including code review culture, testing practices, deployment hygiene, and documentation.
Instrument the platform with PostHog (events, funnels, feature flags, A/B tests), and work independently to surface insights and pull data that support product decisions.
Work directly with the product team to define technical strategy, evaluate build vs. buy decisions, and sequence the roadmap from a perspective that goes beyond engineering and tickets alone.
Mentor and support mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and architectural guidance.
Integrate and extend the platform with third-party APIs (LLMs, ATS systems, job boards, and more), evaluating tradeoffs and owning the implementation.
Use AI tools actively, such as Cursor, Claude, and GitHub Copilot, and bring a point of view on where AI can accelerate the team.
Drive reliability: own incidents, write post-mortems, and systematically reduce the chance of the same issue happening twice.
Perform ad hoc duties and project work as required.

The successful applicant 🙋🏻

English at a near-native level (oral and written).
5+ years of experience shipping production software at a product company.
Expert proficiency in React and TypeScript, including deep knowledge of component architecture, rendering behavior, and performance optimization.
Expert backend experience with Node.js and PostgreSQL. You've designed complex data models, solved hard performance problems, and know when to reach for more advanced patterns.
Proven track record of making and owning architectural decisions in a production system with real users.
Experience mentoring engineers and raising the quality of a team's output, not just your own.
Experience with Next.js, Prisma, PostHog, Railway, or AWS is a strong plus.
Experience building with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) or shipping AI-powered features is a strong plus.
Strong analytical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and project management skills.
Thrives in a dynamic startup environment, adapting as priorities shift while staying goal-oriented and able to execute independently.
Willingness to collaborate and assist whenever, wherever needed.
