The Role

Our client is seeking to recruit a Practice Head – Energy to define and execute the strategic direction, business growth, client engagement, and overall P&L of its Energy Practice. The successful candidate will own the practice strategy, build and deepen strategic client relationships, develop new revenue streams, and position the firm as a trusted strategic advisory partner to global energy organisations.

This is a senior executive appointment. The Practice Head will engage directly with CEOs, C-suite leaders, business heads, and investors on the strategic issues shaping the energy sector, lead high-value advisory engagements, shape the practice’s intellectual agenda, and represent the firm at industry forums and executive platforms. Alongside commercial ownership, the role carries responsibility for building the practice’s capabilities, talent, culture, and external ecosystem, and for ensuring the firm continues to deliver differentiated value as AI, automation, and digital intelligence reshape the advisory landscape.

The role is based in the United Kingdom, with home working available subject to business requirements and management discretion.

Job Responsibilities

Market Leadership & Business Growth

• Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Energy Practice, identifying priority markets, growth themes, and differentiated areas of expertise

• Own the P&L, revenue growth, profitability, and commercial performance of the practice

• Build and execute a high-value business development strategy focused on acquiring, growing, and retaining strategic accounts across the global energy ecosystem

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with CXOs, business leaders, investors, technology providers, and other senior stakeholders across the sector

• Identify emerging opportunities across energy transition, renewables, electrification, decarbonisation, energy infrastructure, and evolving energy business models

• Expand market presence through strategic partnerships, alliances, and industry relationships

• Shape and commercialise differentiated advisory offerings at the intersection of market transformation, technology, sustainability, and execution

Client Engagement & Thought Leadership

• Act as a trusted advisor to senior executives on energy transition, growth strategy, market disruption, technology adoption, sustainability, and business transformation

• Lead senior-level client conversations and build long-term strategic relationships with key accounts

• Oversee the design and delivery of high-impact consulting and advisory engagements, ensuring strong commercial and client outcomes

• Build market visibility through industry research, executive roundtables, keynote presentations, conferences, and published insights

• Develop a forward-looking advisory agenda around major sector shifts, emerging technologies, policy and regulatory developments, and new business models

• Strengthen the practice’s value proposition by combining strategic advisory, proprietary intelligence, technology insight, and AI-enabled decision support

• Develop scalable advisory propositions, including recurring intelligence, subscription-based offerings, and continuous strategic decision-support models

Leadership & Team Development

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Energy Practice with strong commercial, consulting, and industry capabilities

• Recruit, mentor, and retain senior talent aligned with the practice’s growth strategy and market priorities

• Develop the leadership pipeline and capabilities required to scale the practice sustainably

• Foster a culture of client ownership, commercial accountability, innovation, collaboration, and thought leadership

• Drive knowledge development and cross-practice collaboration to strengthen the firm’s overall market proposition

Operational Excellence & Governance

• Ensure effective governance, quality management, risk management, and commercial discipline across practice engagements

• Drive operational efficiency and scalability through the adoption of AI, digital analytics, automation, and technology-enabled delivery models

• Continuously evaluate and refine the practice’s portfolio, offerings, pricing models, and delivery approach to improve client impact and profitability

• Establish clear performance metrics and operating mechanisms covering revenue, profitability, client satisfaction, and strategic growth objectives

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in management consulting, strategy, advisory, or senior industry roles, with significant experience in the energy sector, is mandatory

• Strong industry experience across one or more of oil and gas, power and utilities, renewables, energy transition, energy infrastructure, or emerging energy technologies

• Proven experience owning or managing a P&L, with a track record of driving both top-line growth and profitability

• Demonstrated track record of building multi-million-dollar revenue streams and managing strategic global client relationships

• Established network of relationships with CXOs, business leaders, investors, policymakers, and other senior stakeholders across the energy ecosystem

• Strong understanding of the sector’s major transformations, including decarbonisation, energy transition, electrification, renewable energy, digitalisation, and sustainability

• Proven ability to originate, sell, and lead complex commercial and techno-commercial consulting and advisory engagements

• Strong commercial orientation, with the ability to identify market opportunities, develop propositions, and convert them into sustainable revenue

• Exceptional strategic thinking, client leadership, communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills

• Strong analytical mindset, with the ability to translate complex industry and technology developments into actionable business strategy

• Ability to operate effectively in an ambiguous, fast-changing environment while creating clarity and direction for clients and teams

• Self-driven, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented, with strong ownership and execution capabilities

• Engineering, science, or energy-related educational background, with an M.S., PhD, and/or MBA preferred, specialising in energy, engineering, sustainability, business, or a related field
