Group Financial Controller - 12 to 18 Month FTC

Leeds | Hybrid | c£60,000 - £65,000

Some finance roles maintain. This one builds.

"We're a hugely interesting, complex, international group with a lot in motion. I don't want someone who tolerates chaos. I want someone who gets a buzz from it."
Group FD

Multiple entities. Multiple countries. Systems that don't yet talk to each other. Deals on the table. Priorities that can change in a week.

For some people, that's a warning sign. For the right person, it's the reason to get out of bed.

This is a 12 to 18 month fixed-term contract at the heart of a business in transition. You won't be keeping the lights on. You'll be building the foundations everything else will stand on, and you'll be able to point to them when you leave.
Better still.....you like it so much that you end up wanting to stay.

What's in it for you

Real ownership. Your work will shape how the whole group runs, not just one corner of it.
A legacy. When you leave, the function works differently because you were there.
Broad exposure. International, multi-entity, transactions and transformation, all in one role.
Direct access to the Group FD. Close to the decisions, with a genuine voice in how they're made.
Never dull. Change is the job, so no two months will look the same.
A CV story few can match. "I rebuilt the finance foundations of an international group" carries weight.

What you'll be working on

The major reconciliations project. Bringing order and control to a complex, multi-entity landscape.
Overhauling monthly management reporting. Giving leadership numbers they can trust and act on.
M&A and transaction work, including divestments. Being part of the deals that shape the group's future.
International and multi-entity complexity. Navigating different jurisdictions, structures and requirements.
Joining up disparate systems. Creating one reliable version of the truth.

The main pillars

Control - reconciliations that are robust and repeatable
Insight - management reporting that drives decisions
Transactions - supporting M&A and divestment activity
Structure - a scalable multi-entity, international finance function
Systems - simpler, connected and fit for the future
People - Coach and mentor the team, to pass on the benefit of your wisdom and experience

Is this you?

You've worked in complex, multi-entity businesses, and ideally you've been an owner-manager or worked close to one. You're commercially minded and thick-skinned, and you'd rather get stuck into a messy situation than wait for a perfect one.

You're also:

A proven plate-spinner. You can show us a time when reconciliations, reporting and a deal were all live at once, and you kept them all in the air.
Energised by change. When priorities shift, you see opportunity, not disruption.
Comfortable giving feedback. You'll challenge, respectfully and constructively.
Just as comfortable receiving it. You take it on board and improve.
CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualified

"The best person for this has seen complexity before and isn't put off by it. They thrive and get excited by chaos and change.
Group FD

The honest bit

This isn't a polished, fully systemised environment, and we won't pretend it is. If you need structure handed to you, it won't suit you. If you want to be the person who creates it, it might be the best role you take.

"I'd rather be upfront about the challenge and find someone who wants it. Come and make your mark."
