Sous Chef – Spa Kitchen

Luxury Spa Resort | Near Chester, Cheshire

£34,200 + Service Charge + Paid Overtime | 40-Hour Week | Excellent Resort Benefits

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Sous Chef to join the dedicated spa kitchen of a leading luxury countryside resort near Chester.

This is a slightly different proposition from a traditional hotel Sous Chef role. The kitchen supports an award-winning luxury spa restaurant, producing fresh, seasonal and nutritious food with a strong fusion influence, alongside brunches, lunches, afternoon tea and selected evening dining.

With a 40-hour contract, additional service charge and paid overtime, it offers a strong package alongside genuine creative input and long-term development within a large, established resort.

The Spa & Kitchen

The restaurant sits within an award-winning spa overlooking the Cheshire countryside and serves exclusively spa guests.

The food offering is fresh, colourful and contemporary, with an emphasis on quality ingredients, nutrition and international flavours. Current dining includes healthy brunches and lunches, afternoon tea and selected evening services, giving the kitchen plenty of variety without operating like a conventional high-volume hotel restaurant.

The wider resort operates eight kitchens, creating plenty of opportunity for progression and broader career development.

The Role

As Sous Chef, you'll support the senior team with the day-to-day running of the spa kitchen while taking an active role in both cooking and team development.

You'll be responsible for:

Preparing and delivering fresh, high-quality dishes
Supporting menu development and new flavour combinations
Working with seasonal and nutritious ingredients
Bringing ideas to a modern, fusion-led food offering
Maintaining excellent presentation and consistency
Supporting and developing junior chefs
Assisting with stock control, GP, rotation and kitchen costs
Maintaining excellent food hygiene and organisation
Leading confidently during service and supporting the wider kitchen team

This is a hands-on Sous Chef position with genuine scope to contribute creatively rather than simply maintaining an established menu.

The Package

£34,200 base salary
Service charge on top
40-hour working week
Paid overtime
Free staff meals
Free on-site parking
Free Golf & Leisure Club membership, including gym and swimming pool
Discounted use of the award-winning spa, treatments and retail
Discounted hotel stays for yourself, friends and family
Food and beverage discounts
Funded qualifications and career development
Two paid charity days each year
Employee Assistance Programme
Complimentary regular minibus from Wrexham
Discounted outdoor pursuits facilities

Shifts will include mornings, evenings and weekends. Due to the countryside location, reliable transport is recommended unless using the available Wrexham staff transport.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef or strong senior chef ready to step up who enjoys fresh, creative cooking and leading others.

You'll ideally have:

Experience within a quality hotel, restaurant or similar fresh-food kitchen
Strong technical cooking skills
An interest in fusion cuisine and international flavours
Confidence contributing ideas to menus
Strong organisation and attention to detail
Good commercial awareness around stock and food costs
Experience supporting and developing junior chefs
A calm, positive approach during busy service
A genuine interest in fresh, seasonal and nutritious cooking

Why This Role?

This offers something a little different from the usual hotel Sous Chef vacancy.

You'll be working within a dedicated luxury spa restaurant, with the freedom to explore fresh ingredients, healthier dishes and international flavours while still benefiting from the structure and progression opportunities of a substantial resort.

Add in a 40-hour contract, paid overtime, service charge and an unusually strong benefits package, and it's a very attractive option for a Sous Chef wanting quality cooking without the typical 50+ hour hotel kitchen commitment.
