Director of SEO & GEO, Technical Accounts

About us: At Spin, recruitment is about more than filling roles; it’s about creating real human connections. We partner with leading U.S. companies to help them hire exceptional talent through a true direct-hire process, ensuring candidates join our clients’ teams directly while we support them throughout the journey.

About our partner: You'll join a growth agency built for buyers who fact-check you. They've driven over $1B in revenue across 70+ companies — including some of the fastest-growing names in AI and developer tools — often marketing products that have never been marketed before. Senior operators work alongside an internal platform and a production line of Claude Code skills and multi-agent workflows, and every claim is verified before it ships.

About the role: This is a greenfield leadership role — no inherited SEO org, legacy process or tool stack. You'll build the SEO & GEO practice from the ground up for technical accounts (AI infrastructure, developer tools, platform products with skeptical technical buyers): define the methodology, hire the team, set the quality bar and own the outcomes. You stay hands-on enough to ship a PR or run an audit yourself, and senior enough to decide what the practice looks like a year from now.

What You'll Own

Building the practice from zero. Design the operating model — service lines, account tiers, sprint cadence, reporting and what “done” means — plus the reviewer loops, QA checklists and escalation paths that keep quality high as the team grows.
Hiring and team building. Define the roles (strategists, technical SEOs, content leads), write the scorecards, run the hiring loop, and coach people into owners who don't route every decision through you.
AI-native production line. Own the Claude Code skills, multi-agent workflows and configs the team runs on, decide what to build next, and make sure the team catches the AI's mistakes: fabricated data, unverified claims, silently failed writes.
GEO and AI-search strategy. Shape how visibility is measured and improved in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and AI Overviews, and turn a real view on what makes a brand citable into a differentiated offering.
Hands-on technical SEO when it counts. Search-Console-first audits, schema/JSON-LD, canonical and redirect hygiene, and small, reviewable PRs into Next.js/Astro codebases, verified against live rendering.
Positioning and competitive strategy. Lead Dunford-style repositioning and JTBD work, build competitor sets from demand data, and require live verification of every competitive claim.
Client leadership and growth. Be the senior SEO & GEO voice for founders, turn what you hear into strategy and sprint plans, bring high-stakes findings as decisions, and partner with leadership on scoping, pricing and expansion.

How We Work

Sprints, not open lists. Scoped batches — a PR, a content plan, an audit — with a clear “done.”
Claude Code as the production line. It's how the work gets done, and you decide how it evolves.
Live verification. Every claim is checked against the page, repo or search result.
Escalate, don't downplay. Sensitive findings go to the client as a decision, not a footnote.
Builders over maintainers. If a process isn't working, replace it with something better.

What You Bring

10+ years in technical SEO or SEO strategy for B2B SaaS, dev tools or another expert-buyer space, including 3+ years leading a team or practice.
A track record of building from scratch — an SEO function, service line or team where none existed — and of hiring, coaching and retaining strong practitioners.
Still comfortable in a codebase: you read git diffs, open PRs and know schema/JSON-LD, canonicals, redirects and crawl-based auditing deeply.
Hands-on with Claude Code (or a compatible AI harness) and a clear view on how AI should change an SEO team.
A real point of view on GEO/AEO: what makes content citable, and how to measure it honestly.
Familiarity with Next.js/Astro stacks, Vercel-style previews and CMSs like Storyblok, Sanity, Contentful, WordPress or EmDash.
Confident client leadership — defending a data-backed narrative to founders and engineers, delivering hard news, and turning client conversations into roadmap changes.
Nice to have: agency leadership, service packaging and pricing, eCommerce SEO.
