Private Equity Financial Modeling Expert

Location: 100% Remote (Latin America – Full US Business Hours Overlap)

Employment Type: Independent Contractor / Consultant

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Private Equity Financial Modeling Expert to lead sophisticated investment underwriting and portfolio analysis. This role is strictly for an active practitioner who has recently built, owned, and audited complete, complex LBO and operating models from scratch for live investments, acquisitions, or portfolio decisions.

You will work directly with raw investment materials (CIMs, debt term sheets, financial reporting packages, and QoE reports) to build acquisition cases, challenge management assumptions, model complex debt structures and returns waterfalls, and present institutional-grade analysis to support Investment Committees and Boards.

Note: General FP&A, DCF-only modeling, or standard Investment Banking profiles without direct, hands-on Private Equity underwriting experience will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

LBO & Underwriting Models: Build, own, and maintain fully integrated 3-statement LBO and acquisition underwriting models from real-world investment teasers, CIMs, financial reporting packages, and SEC filings.
Operating Cases & Assumption Challenge: Develop dynamic, granular operational models and downside scenarios. Proactively challenge management assumptions, testing sensitivity across revenue drivers, working capital needs, capex, and cash conversion.
Debt Structures & Cash Sweeps: Architect multi-tranche debt capital structures, dynamic cash sweeps, PIK/interest schedules, debt paydown timelines, and covenant tracking mechanisms.
Returns & Waterfalls: Build complex distribution waterfalls (European/American-style, preferred returns, hurdle rates, GP catch-up, and carried interest) and calculate accurate MOIC and IRR metrics.
Portfolio & Add-on Analysis: Perform M&A consolidation modeling, roll-up strategies, synergistic add-on analysis, and ongoing portfolio company value-creation monitoring.
Technical GAAP Accounting Mechanics: Account for GAAP-to-EBITDA adjustments, lease accounting impacts, working capital nuances, purchase accounting, and cash conversion dynamics within the investment case—far beyond simple returns formulas.
Investment Defense: Clearly articulate, defend, and walk through your formulaic architecture, underlying source data, key sensitivities, and modeling logic to senior investment partners.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Direct Private Equity Experience: 3+ years of direct experience building, owning, and auditing complex financial models within Private Equity buyout funds, growth equity funds, search funds, specialized PE advisory firms, or hands-on PE portfolio finance/value-creation teams.
Hands-on Live Deal Track Record: Demonstrated experience taking an LBO and operating model from scratch through to live investment committee/board presentation, including active participation in underwriting and risk assessment.
U.S. GAAP Proficiency: Direct, verifiable experience working with U.S. GAAP, U.S.-listed companies, U.S. clients, or U.S. investor teams, including dynamic integrated 3-statement modeling. (Actual hands-on experience will be verified during screening).
Technical Mastery: Proven expertise building dynamic LBO models in Excel featuring circularity toggles, dynamic debt paydowns, complex waterfalls, sources & uses, downside/exit scenarios, and add-on/roll-up modules.
Communication & Defense: Flawless written and spoken English, with the proven ability to clearly explain complex technical financial logic, trade-offs, and critical risk drivers.
Time Zone Alignment: Located in Latin America with full, seamless overlap during standard US business hours.
