QAD Software Engineer / Developer

Contractor · Remote in LATAM

Our client, a high-tech manufacturing company, is seeking a highly skilled QAD Software Engineer with a background in Progress 4GL / OpenEdge ABL development and enterprise system integration.

This position focuses on custom application logic, API integration, database architecture, and technical enhancements across the company's QAD ERP environment. You will join the Information Technology / Enterprise Applications team, reporting to the Director of IT & Cyber Security.

This is a hands-on development role, with an emphasis on software design and engineering rather than routine administrative support.

Responsibilities

Software Development & Customization: Design, code, test, and deploy custom Progress 4GL / OpenEdge ABL applications, scripts, triggers, and procedures tailored to QAD Enterprise Applications.
System Integration: Develop and maintain enterprise integrations between QAD and external systems (e.g., PLM, Salesforce, BigTime, MES, custom web apps) using QXtend, REST/SOAP APIs, and web services.
Database & Data Architecture: Analyze, optimize, and write complex queries, database triggers, and data conversion scripts for QAD/Progress databases.
Process Automation: Build automated batch jobs, background processing routines, and continuous improvement workflows to enhance manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and financial operations.
Technical Architecture & Design: Collaborate with business stakeholders, IT leadership, and cross-functional teams to translate complex functional requirements into clear technical specifications and high-performance software design.
Testing, Optimization & Maintenance: Perform rigorous unit testing, code reviews, performance tuning, and bug fixes to ensure application scalability, security, and stability.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent technical experience.
QAD & Progress Expertise: Hands-on experience developing within QAD Enterprise Applications / MFG/PRO environments using Progress 4GL / OpenEdge ABL.
Integration Technologies: Proven track record working with QXtend, RESTful APIs, SOAP, ICT, and XML/JSON data formats.
Database Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Progress DB schema, relational database concepts, indexing, performance tuning, and SQL queries.
Developer Mindset: Emphasis on software design principles, version control, automated testing, and the software development lifecycle over routine administrative support.
Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving capabilities, clear technical communication, and the ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams.

Nice to Have

Domain Knowledge: Experience in high-tech manufacturing, medical devices, supply chain, or engineering services environments.
QAD Adaptive UX & UI Frameworks: Practical exposure to QAD Adaptive Experience (UX) architecture or Progress Kendo UI development components.
Secondary Programming Languages: Proficiency in complementary backend or scripting technologies (such as Python, C#, Java, or Node.js) used for middleware and data integration services.
Reporting & Data Analytics: Background using relational SQL databases alongside business intelligence tools such as Power BI, SSRS, or Cyberquery.
DevOps & Build Automation: Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflows within OpenEdge and Progress development environments.
