The Recruitment Podcast EP. 7: Katrina Raposo shares ways to build resilience in recruitment (and life!)

“Resilience in recruitment is not just dusting off and saying, ‘Oh, dear, on to the next one.’ It is about that journey and those stepping stones that I put in to ensure that I get the outcome that I want.”

Katrina Raposo is an experienced recruitment leader with 25 years in the industry, having navigated professional and personal challenges with incredible resilience.

From managing a staffing agency during multiple recessions to overcoming a serious health battle, Katrina has seen it all.

In this episode of The Recruitment Podcast, she joins Kate O’Neill to share her personal journey, emphasizing the importance of embracing challenges, learning from them, and fostering authentic relationships with both clients and candidates.

Tune in to hear how Raposo’s philosophy on resilience, authenticity, and teamwork can inspire and guide you in your own recruitment career.

1. Embrace challenges and learn from them

Rather than brushing off setbacks, take the time to reflect on what happened and ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?”

Katrina highlights the importance of processing hiring challenges, not just moving past them. This lets you grow professionally and personally, building the mental resilience needed for long-term success.

2. Focus on authentic relationships

“I’ve got relationships that actually stem my 25 years, and I think that’s because of how I’ve always been.”

Katrina emphasizes that recruitment is about building genuine, long-term relationships, not just filling positions.

Stay true to yourself, be honest, and focus on adding real value to your clients and candidates.  Being honest helps build trust and keeps you grounded during tough times.

3. Collaborate, don’t compete

Shift your mindset from competition to collaboration.

“When you haven’t got that competing against each other and that negativity around collaboration, your mindset will be 100 times better.”

Katrina advocates for working together with colleagues, clients, and even competitors.

When you focus on mutual growth and support, it reduces stress and fosters a positive environment. Collaborating with others can help you manage your workload, gain new insights, and keep your mindset strong during challenging periods.
