The Recruitment Podcast EP. 4: Busting the biggest myth of remote recruiting with Alex Dick
“We are employed to do a job, not to be somewhere. If you can do that job from anywhere, why shouldn’t it be possible?”
The recruitment world has changed, but not everyone wants to accept it.
Remote work isn’t just something we had to do during the pandemic. It’s a real advantage.
Yet, despite the obvious benefits, some leaders still push back.
In the recent episode of The Recruitment Podcast, Alex Dick, founder of Alexander Lyons Solutions, takes on those outdated views and lays out why remote recruiting isn’t just possible—it’s the future.
Remote recruiting: A reality check
For Alex, the decision to go fully remote was more of a personal move than just business.
“In 2020, my wife became really ill. That changed everything. I realized how much of my kids’ lives I had missed. I wanted to do things differently—not just for myself, but for the people I work with.”
This shift led him to build a recruitment model centered around flexibility and autonomy, proving that top-tier recruiting doesn’t require a physical office.
“Remote jobs won’t work in recruitment”: The biggest myth
One of the most common arguments against remote recruiting is that “Sales environments can’t work remotely.”
Alex completely disagrees—and he’s got the proof.
“Some of the world’s biggest companies have sales teams from all over the world. Why would recruitment be any different? The only reason remote models ‘fail’ is because leadership doesn’t want them to work.”
At its core, recruitment is about outcomes, not location.
- Clients don’t care where you’re based, they care about results.
- Candidates value speed, efficiency, and personal connection—none of which require an office.
- Also, recruiters perform better when given the freedom to manage their work in a way that suits them best.
Still skeptical? Alex has also broken down some real remote recruitment challenges—and how to solve them.
