Job summary:

We're looking for a Medical Surgical Nurse to care for adult patients recovering from surgery or being treated for acute illness at [company name]. The right person is a licensed RN who manages a full patient assignment safely and communicates clearly with the care team.

Med-surg is the largest nursing specialty in US hospitals. Careful assessment, safe medication practice, and strong patient education reduce complications, shorten hospital stays, and lower readmissions.

Key responsibilities:

• Assess patients at the start of each shift and monitor them for changes in condition.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products using barcode medication administration.
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, including pain management and wound care.
• Manage drains, catheters, IV lines, and other medical devices.
• Recognize early signs of deterioration, such as sepsis, and escalate to providers or the rapid response team.
• Coordinate care with physicians, case managers, therapists, and pharmacists.
• Teach patients and families about medications, wound care, and discharge plans.
• Document assessments, care, and shift handoffs in [Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), or other EHR].
• Delegate tasks to and supervise CNAs and patient care technicians.
• Follow infection control, fall prevention, and HIPAA [or local privacy law] standards.

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred.
